The makers of DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story have officially unveiled the first look of Rajkummar Rao as former India captain Sourav Ganguly, marking the cricket legend’s 54th birthday with a reveal that has delighted both cricket fans and cinema enthusiasts.
The striking poster recreates one of the most unforgettable moments in Indian cricket history—Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony after India’s memorable triumph in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. The powerful image immediately sparked nostalgia among fans and has been widely shared across social media.
Rajkummar Rao’s transformation into the role has earned widespread appreciation, with many praising the actor’s convincing resemblance to the former captain. His portrayal captures Ganguly’s trademark confidence, intensity and fearless attitude, raising expectations for what promises to be one of India’s biggest sports biopics.
The film will chronicle Ganguly’s extraordinary rise from a talented youngster in Kolkata to becoming one of India’s most influential cricket captains. Earlier, Ganguly himself had confirmed that Rajkummar Rao would portray him in the biopic. While the project was initially expected to release sooner, production schedules and the actor’s prior commitments reportedly resulted in the film being pushed back by more than a year.
Alongside the first-look poster, the filmmakers confirmed that DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story will release in theatres on May 14, 2027, during the extended Eid holiday weekend, a window expected to attract large audiences across the country.
The biographical drama is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. The film is presented by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series, and DBL, and is being produced under the Luv Films banner.
Having reportedly spent months preparing for the challenging role, Rajkummar Rao now carries the responsibility of bringing one of Indian cricket’s most iconic personalities to the silver screen.
