After the spectacular success of its agitation at Jantar Mantar over NEET paper leak, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leadership has carved out its role for future. The movement, or the organisation behind it, will operate as a pressure group for now, demanding institutional accountability, instead of turning into a political party, said CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday, August 5, at the organisation’s core team’s meeting at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra.
“For now, CJP will be a pressure group, as what India needs now is a pressure group,” said Dipke, the 30-year-old founder of CJP, to reporters. CJP’s monthlong protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan last month.

CJP members will travel to Jharkhand to lend support to job aspirants who have been staging an indefinite sit-in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi since July 29, he added. The job aspirants have been demanding investigations into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and others by an independent panel of retired high court judges from outside Jharkhand.
“People have lost faith in the judiciary, politics, media and the Election Commission. Our agitation received nationwide support. As the agitation grew, the support was not merely limited to education issues; it was also about these institutions. Hence, to bring accountability in these institutions, there is a need for a public pressure group,” said Dipke.

Describing the condition of political parties as “very bad,” Dipke said while people vote for one party in the morning, a government is formed by another party by the evening. “For now, CJP will be a pressure group, as what India needs now is a pressure group,” he added.
“The agitation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi drew a nationwide response. The responsibility on us has increased, and people’s expectations from us have grown,” said, who was seen serving tea to visitors and police personnel deployed for security at CJP’s meeting premises.

The meeting discussed people’s declining trust in institutions like the media and the judiciary. It also discussed matters such as ethanol-blended fuel and rising unemployment. Notable among others participating in the meeting alongside Dipke and CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das were Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh.
Das, an acclaimed investigative journalist, said CJP would continue to demand withdrawal of FIRs against students who attended the recent protests led by the movement against the NEET paper leak and other exam irregularities at several places in the country.

“We are talking with government representatives on this issue. We are working to provide legal and medical assistance to protesters injured in the recent students’ agitations across India,” he told PTI.
Environmentalist and education activist Sonam Wangchuk will continue to be CJP’s mentor, he said. Wangchuk fasted at Jantar Mantar for weeks in support of CJP’s demand for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. The way he was forcibly taken away from the protest site and hospitalised by Delhi Police personnel had caused widespread resentment among students across India.
