The differences between India’s Kathakali and Japan’s Kabuki dance forms are as important as their similarities. They belong to distinct cultures and aesthetic systems, but both remind us of something crucial and exceedingly beautiful.

This is 60-year-old Chandika Shrestha, the wife of Ananda Shrestha, who was successfully rescued alive 11 days after the devastating flood ravaged much of Nepal. She was rescued from the fourth floor of their four-storey house in Betravati in Nuwakot on Saturday, September 5. An Armed Police Force (APF) rescue team reached the spot in the house almost buried in mud and pulled her out to safety.

The boy was travelling with a 40-member group from Uttar Pradesh currently settled in Mumbai. The tragedy unfolded when four boys from the group stepped into the river even as the women in their party moved aside to change clothes.

What makes this crash harder to file away as "just another highway accident" is the setting it occurred in. The stretch was mid-construction — NH-66 is undergoing road-widening work through that section.
