Every family has one. That WhatsApp group where “Good Morning” arrives before the sun, accompanied by a bouquet of animated roses, glittering teacups, and enough sparkles to blind an astronaut.
Our family group has evolved into something far more sophisticated, it is now an unofficial intelligence agency.
The moment someone changes their profile picture, an investigation begins.
“New photo? Who took it?” “Where was this?” “Why are you wearing sunglasses? Is everything alright?”
No detail escapes the family detectives. If someone doesn’t respond for two hours, the theories start multiplying.
“Maybe they’re sleeping.” “No, they were online at 10:17.” “I saw blue ticks.” “They’ve definitely muted the group.”
Then comes the annual debate over forwarded messages. Every uncle has a PhD in forwarding, every aunt has complete faith in miracle remedies involving turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and occasionally what appears to be lawn clippings. Someone inevitably sends a message claiming that eating mangoes while standing on one foot during a full moon cures everything from back pain to bad Wi-Fi.
Within minutes, another relative fact-checks it. A third replies, “Let’s not argue in the family group.” Which, of course, guarantees another thirty-seven messages explaining why nobody is arguing.
Birthdays are equally entertaining. The first person writes, “Happy Birthday!” The next twenty-five copy exactly the same words. Then one enthusiastic cousin posts a five-minute video montage with emotional music, baby photos nobody gave permission to share, and at least one hairstyle the birthday person had hoped the world had forgotten.
Despite the chaos, repeated jokes, accidental voice notes, mysterious emojis, and endless debates over who forgot to call whom, the family WhatsApp group remains strangely comforting. It’s noisy, dramatic, occasionally exhausting, and impossible to escape. Rather like family itself.
And deep down, we’d all be slightly disappointed if, one morning, the phone didn’t buzz at 5:42 a.m. with a glittering GIF wishing us a blessed day and reminding us to drink warm water. ![]()
