Dipke lobs biting sarcasm at PM Modi after latter posts new selfie video praising anti-paper leak law

“Your skin is brighter than the country's future,” says Dipke in response to Modi’s selfie video in which he welcomed the passing of the anti-paper leak law in Parliament. Modi called the amended law a major step towards making the examination system credible.

Five days after claiming the scalp of a top minister in PM Narendra Modi’s cabinet through assiduous youth protests, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday, July 30, returned to social media to lambast the PM with a biting comment dripping with sarcasm.

The 30-year-old leader of CJP, a ragtag grouping of students and youth that is yet to be formalised into a proper organisation, made it clear by a post on Instagram that he did not think the stricter anti-paper leak law passed by Parliament would be of any help. His comment came in response to a selfie-style video PM Modi posted on Thursday, describing the legislation as a big step towards creating a credible examination system.

“Your skin is brighter than the country’s future,” wrote Dipke in his post along with a screenshot of PM Modi taken from the selfie video in which the latter welcomed the passing of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament.

CJP had earlier criticised the Modi govt’s proposed amendments to the 2024 law, saying govt was focusing more on punishing offenders after a paper leak than preventing such incidents. CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka had said the Bill offered little provision to plug the holes in the system that enable examination leaks. “You have been talking about everything after the paper leak, whether it is fast-track courts, harsher punishments or penalties. But you have not talked about what you are doing to stop paper leaks,” he said.

Claiming that orders to use force against students during CJP’s 20 July ‘Sansad Chalo’ march must have come from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Dipke on Thursday sought his resignation over the violence by police.

Dipke on Wednesday criticised Modi, saying the latter should step down from the country’s top post and “become an influencer” instead. Modi, he said, seemed better suited to being a social media influencer and should step down to let someone else do the job of managing the country.

The anti-paper leak bill passed by Parliament makes the 2024 law stronger by increasing prison terms and fines for people convicted of examination fraud, mandating time-bound probes of paper leak cases, and making it mandatory for states to set up fast-track courts for paper leak cases.

The Modi government was forced to bring in the amendments to the two-year-old law after the paper leak in NEET UG this year led to massive uproar across the country and student protests led by CJP, which eventually led to the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as education minister on July 25. Additional charge of the ministry was given to Pradhan’s cabinet colleague Prahlad Joshi the same day.
